In many clocks and circuits mains frequency is used as the time base, because of its high accuracy. If these devices are to be supplied by batteries (e.g. in the event of power failure) another time base should be provided to prevent the clock from stopping. This kit provides the standard 50Hz mains frequency, 100Hz (for devices operating with hundreds of seconds) or 400Hz signals (selectable).
